Fun ideas for your 2025 travels!
December 5, 2024The days are dark, and the nights are long. In the depths of winter, we’re all dreaming about sunnier climes – or at least a break from the constantly grey skies. In a word, travel is most definitely on your mind.
The world’s your oyster, as they say, so let’s look about turning your travel dreams into reality during 2025.
Looking for adventure
If you’re at all adventure minded, this is a time of year when your thoughts naturally turn to winter sports – skiing, snowboarding, or cross-country along your favourite Alpine routes. You can almost see the bright blue skies and glistening snow already beckoning you to new and exciting destinations:
Scotland
- it’s not that you’ll need to travel all that far – Scotland has no fewer than five ski resorts. Take your pick from Cairngorm, Glencoe, Glenshee, The Lecht, or Nevis;
- it’s where you’ll find the best skiing and snowboarding in the UK, under (hopefully) stunning blue skies, with breathtaking scenery and locations that are easy to get to;
The Swiss Alps
- the Swiss Alps is where it all began, of course, and continues to draw the rich and famous;
- if you’d care to join them, Gstaad remains one of the most exclusive resorts;
Alternative places to ski
- you’re an adventurer at heart, so why not explore relatively unknown winter sports destinations such as the Czech Republic, Georgia (Russia), or even Morocco – yes the High Atlas Mountains are one of the very few places you can ski in Africa.
Leisurely cruising
Not all holidays are created equal – and not every holiday needs to prove itself an adventure rush. Life on an ocean cruise – about as leisurely as you can get – is sure to recharge the batteries and give you a renewed zest for life after being pampered and spoilt for the voyage.
Your voyage on the ocean wave could be as short a trip as just a few days, stretching to the practically indefinite life at sea.
And cruises can be as closer to home as you like – with some cruising around the UK and Ireland – or to more far-flung destinations such as the Caribbean.
Arts and crafts
If you’re not especially keen on finding your sea legs, how about a holiday where you can develop or creative skills?
Wild Arts Scotland, for instance, gives you the chance to get away from it all in your own private retreat – surrounded by the glorious scenery of Argyll – where you can develop your creative instincts through art and other crafts.
Or combine your passion for arts and crafts with travel by going on an activity holiday in France – things such as jewellery making, learning to paint and even comedy writing are all up for grabs!
Travel insurance
Finally, whether you’re travelling far afield or holidaying closer to home, remember the importance of travel insurance. It can get you treated or transported home in case of an accident or emergency, while lost tickets or baggage and delayed flights or trains can often be safely protected.
Travel insurance comes in all shapes and sizes, with some – but not all – policies specifically tailored to meet specific risks such as those on winter sports holidays or when you’re far from landfall on a sea cruise.
So, make sure to choose the travel insurance that expressly covers the specific needs of your holiday.
When arranging your travel insurance, it is also essential that you disclose any pre-existing medical condition – even if you have subsequently recovered. Failure to disclose a medical condition could see any claim you make rejected.
